With time comes change but why change something that withstood the test of time once before? Thats exactly what the new owner of club love Patrick Doyle asked him self . Love is a underground hotspot located on 40 West 8th Street New York, NY . The club created its name not by flashy lights extravagant interiour or over priced bottle service but by being a house music driven venue . Its intamet setting , friendly crowd and redicilous sounds system (one of the best in NY ) always managed to bring a crowd along with some of the biggest DJ’s in the game.Setting the bar for talent very high. But with the market changing and a new generation coming on to the scene so can it withstand the test of time one more time ?
I got a chance to sit down with Patrick to see his view on things along the way letting us in on his master plan for this place. He Purchased the club during the first week of September in 2009. He knew his job was not going to be easy. When Patrick took over the club it was owned by a company crumbling upon its self and Patrick had played a role of a pillar becoming the back bone of the project. Knowing that things can be duplicated and regenerated again and again as he seen through the 12 years in this career . His main focus was to stay close to the fundamentals that this place was built upon which was music driven integrady and a top notch sound system. He had all the right tools to do so but could he succsed?I quote ” i don’t care if i have the best DJ in the world and im standing here all by my self atleast i know i maintained the clubs DJ and driven integrady”. Patrick also planson turning love into franchise , he had completed this difficult task before with his previous projects such as Rebel , Boulevard , Crash Mansion and the early days of China club .
To get the ball rolling the clubs team is in the middle of putting together a rotation that cannot be duplicated nor ignored including the hottest dj’s from all genres of house and spreading them through out the weekends line up. So be on the look out for the dates on our Calendar.
**WARNING AFTERHOURS IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY**
Afterhours is usually aknowleged as a negative term sleezy , dirty and messy. Patricks take on the issue ? “10 years ago till now were still here only for 1 reason is to dance and a dance club is a celebration of life. Were here to wash away the sorrows of the week and enjoy ourselves. The music and the dancing is what is going keep this place going for another 10 years”. The point is to dance not to drink and we can do that all night long.
On a personal note, after finishing up the interview with Patrick, his passion and excitement had rubbed off on me and reminded me of a old quote that many of you are familiar with and for those who are not consider it as words of wisdom – ” house music is not meant to reflect on reality and the every day things people go through , its meant to escape them , not everyone understands house Its a mind body and soul thing”
