Today we bring you the intel on another artist from the New York City area. We had a chance to converse with DJ Chachi, resident at EMM Group establishments such as Simyone Lounge and Tenjune, Mur.Mur in Borgata Hotel in AC, Liv at the world famous Fontainebleau in Miami, and the DJ for celebrities such as Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake. We bumped to Chachi at SL and also DJ’d with him at a private event in Tenjune, but finally had an opportunity to chat with one of New York’s top party rockers.
The obvious question, what inspired you to become a DJ?
That feeling you get when you drop the perfect record the perfect way and the crowd loses its mind.
We love that feeling. Was there a defining moment in the early days that made you
think “this is what I want to do?”
First record I ever played at a nightclub. I was 15 years old with two thousand people in front of me
and that was it. I was hooked.
Name your break out gig that you did that made you feel like you are no longer a local DJ but a terror on the scene.
When I started my residency at Mur.Mur in the Borgata hotel, casino & Spa.
Yeah we saw your photos with Kirill. That party is crazy, last time I came out of that party and started playing blackjack. Not a good idea. List 3 words to describe your style as a DJ
Eclectic, energetic, technical.
I remember you mentioning respect for older and more experienced DJs, as a veteran in the game what advice can you give to some of the rookies out there?
Utilize all the tools you have in front of you, technology, new gear, the internet, you can reach so many people so fast these days you have to have your web marketing game on point.
Yeah things have definitely changed. You’re not carrying boxes of records around anymore. This also gives DJs a chance to do new things and be artists in their own right, give us the intel behind your craft. How do you differentiate yourself from the rest and stay on top of your game?
Someone told me recently that I was a lifer. It took me a while to really digest that, but it’s pretty true.
I work in my studio every day. Compiling track lists for CD’s and mixes I would like to release.
Working on new music/sets to play at the club.
Staying on my web marketing game. I must have 30-40 profiles on the web. I’m constantly doing interviews and pushing to put out great music I believe needs to be hard and I really enjoy myself.
Dj’n isn’t a hobby or a fad for me. It has become who I am. Part of me thinks it’s important for me to cherish this time because such a few number of DJ’s get to reach this certain level of success.
And for that I’m truly thankful and don’t take it for granted.
So everyday I wake up and try to be better.
Take notes kids. Are you working on other ventures to expand your inner artist?
I’ve started doing original production with my first release “Love is Blind” Featuring Alicia Keys
I’ll be doing much, much more of this.
Sounds good, we’ll definitely be on the look out. Ok last question:
What track/artist is playing on your ipod right now?
N.E.R.D – Hot N fun
